UTR Number

I am self employed and own a Wedding Videography company, if I employ other freelancers who are also self employed to assist me on the day do I need to ask for UTR numbers from each of them,
My accountant has asked me to make sure I do but I've talked to a few other self employed videography and photography friends and they said they have never been asked for a UTR number.
He basically said if you don't ask and they are not registered, I would then be in trouble with the TaxMan and be liable to pay Tax on top of the amount I have paid them.
I would love some help on this please.

If you are employing them then it's their national insurance number you need as this is what you will use to deduct tax and NIC.
An employee doesn't need a UTR, only the self employed do.0
