O/S Daily Thread Sunday 31st January 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Managed to get online straight away this morning.
Still feeling carp with a stinking cold, hey ho at least it's the weekend so I can laze around and do very little.
Gammon for lunch, I can either do roasties and veg with it, egg & chips or just make it into sarnies, whatever hubby wants.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Can I ask for some ideas for cheap meals that are healthy? My fussy husband doesn't like lentils, beans, brassicas, aubergines etc, so my ideas of low fat healthy curries are out of the window. I want to try and reduce our over reliance on stodgy pasta if I can. Cheers!
  • Morning HESTER and all to follow. Welcome to Old Style JOEYEMMA. Have you come across the Old Style Recipe Collection? That should give you lots of ideas. It's broken down into sections to make it easier to wade through! Then just bookmark any recipes that appeal to you. There are hundreds on there so allow plenty of time!

All is calm and still outside for now but we have rain forecast. Yesterday we were battered with wind, rain, sleet, snow and hailstones most of the day. Though the sun did manage to peak through occasionally. We have three miniature daffs in flower in the front garden to give us hope Spring is on its way!

We braved the weather and bought our train tickets for next Sunday's trip to the Royal Liverpool. Managed to reserve our seats too on the second leg from Leeds. I think half the country must be on the move on a Sunday, the trains are so jampacked.

Not a lot planned for today. Mr TA's lunch is to be Liver & Bacon casserole but I think it will be fish for me. I have never liked liver myself but Mr TA is quite partial to it so I give him a treat now and then.

Have a nice day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care xx

Didn't do much yesterday, bit of knitting, bit of cleaning, etc. DD coming for tea when she's finished work. It's the last day the shop is open but she's going in tomorrow to close up and help strip the unit. She will drop me at work tomorrow and take the car as there is a lot to bring home. I'll get the train to hers tomorrow when I finish.

Going for a swim again this morning, it's pouring down so will visit Ald! on my way back and then I don't need to go out again. I want to make a Thai Green curry tonight so will get some veggies for that.

    Enjoy Sunday. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone,

Dull and drizzly here but am not going far today so not worried. Just didn't stop yesterday what with sorting the house, getting Bill out etc, then drove over to pick Mum up in the afternoon and she is now safely ensconced in the spare room, enjoying her morning cup of tea.

Bless her, she came with a tea loaf and some shortbread so no need for baking this week, today am cooking pork fillet in a cream and mustard sauce for lunch, it's a Lisa Faulkner recipe, will do an apple crumble for dessert. Other than listening to the Archers omnibus that's about it for today, perfick :)

Have a good day everyone x

    Morning all.

Hubby tossed and turned in the night which kept me awake. First he was hot, then cold. I gave up at one point and went downstairs.

Not sure what we are doing today but I shall be preparing food. Dinners for the men to take to work tomorrow and I'm doing a few days worth of sandwiches for them to take too. Not sure how it will work out but we will see. Any hints/tips will be welcomed as I'm imagining the bread will be hard by Tuesday as your not supposed to store bread in a fridge as it goes hard. The men are knackered after work and the last thing they want to do is sandwiches for the next day.

Bill day tomorrow. Must check hubby has transferred the money into my account.

Welcome JoeyEmma. When money is tight I usually make quiches. Traditional quiches and cooked chicken in a thick white sauce cooked in a pastry base. No ingredients specifically just everything cooked and chucked together then baked. Hubby likes cheese and potato pie though I'm not keen. Shepherds/cottage pie will stretch miles and so will bolegnese.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all.

    Morning everyone.

It's not raining. It's not blowing a gale. I will have to go out just for the novelty of it! The ground is wet so there must have been rain recently so my fingers are crossed for a dry day. Tomorrow we have been promised Storm Henry.

I'll go out for milk and eggs this morning, and take some rubbish to the tip. The recycling bag is full to the brim and the ordinary rubbish bag is a bit whiffy. When I got back know last week I put some wasted food in it but haven't been able to get to the tip until now.

After that I'll finish off the downstairs tidying up-athon of the coffee table. I'm not sure why I need so much stuff right next to me. And I need to put a wash on, I thought I had done one last week and then realised that it was the bed linen I had to rewash because of the builders mess.

I'll take some chicken out of the freezer for today. There's also a packet of chicken thighs which I want to cook (with chorizo, peppers and tomatoes) and the refreeze in portions. There's also the venison joints to tackle...

Anyway, I hope everyone has a peaceful and restful Sunday. Tomorrow is February, already!
  • Morning! Hello joey Emma, I often make stir fries, a little meat goes a long way, meatballs, meatloaf, I don't enjoy a lot of meat but husband and son feel the need for daily meat. Today I have a chicken to roast, and that will provide more than one meal.

Up since 3 again, my eyes ,look pands-like now. Have made an elephant and a brown bear. OH up now, has just brought me a cup of tea, wahey! Going to read the papers, going out for a couple of hours later to see a friend who has just returned from a skiing holiday and is injury - free.

Then cooking Sunday dinner, chicken as above, with a lot of vegetables.

It is raining. Imagine my joy, I have washing ready to go out, serve me right for believing the weatherman who lives in my tablet.

Have a happy day all, TA I often find that I cannot book a seat on some of the lines, particularly if I am trying to get across Yorkshire. So I get a seat for part of a journey but rarely for all of it.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
