Thoughts on honeymoon comps.. not married?

Hi guys,
I've entered a few honeymoon competition for holidays to places i'd love to go, but I am single and have been for 3 years
I always check T&C's and most of the time, it doesn't state that you actually need to be married or engaged. One I entered that was posted today had an option in the form for wedding date but it wasn't mandatory to fill it in so i left it blank. Has anyone here ever won one and did they ask for any kind of proof? I would assume not otherwise it would probably say something in the terms and conditions?
Either way, i'm still going to enter them unless it specifically states something in the T&C's. If I win and they want proof, i'll either marry a friend or let them pick another winner :rotfl:
Just wondered what other peoples opinions are regarding these type of comps

I don't touch them, same as I'd not enter one aimed at parents as I don't have kids. There are plenty for me which others couldn't enter, so I'll just stick with what I feel is right for me. I'd much rather a honeymoon prize go to honeymooners. Only seems fair to me.
Each to their own though.
Jx2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
i dont enter the honeymoon or wedding ones either-sorry but theyre usually given out and special treats are left at hotel etc-what happens when u turn up alone and htey laid on stuff for the newlyweds? What goes around-comes around0

Going on honeymoon without getting married... that's idiomatic
It's the best of both worlds, having your cake and eating it, having it both ways, buttering your bread on both sides, making an omlette without breaking eggs, swimming without getting wet... and so on until the cows come home.0 -
I would not enter a competition that is clearly directed at a certain group of people, there are plenty of other comps for holidays out there0

If something is clear from the competition description it doesn't have to be stated in the T&C's as well.
The Sun were found against for a restriction on what children could be taken on a family holiday but from the judgement just the competition description was enough to communicate that children would be expected to be takenThe ASA considered the description of the prize as a "family holiday" and the fact the holiday was to Disney World communicated to entrants that they would be expected to take children on the holiday.
This was then clarified in the Terms and Conditions which clearly stated that the prize was based on two adults and two children aged 2–11 years old. We therefore considered it was reasonable for The Sun not to award the prize to entrants who intended to use the prize only as an individual or a couple
So if the description states honeymoon/wedding that's probably enough to allow them to only award the prize to those who qualify.0 -
I obviously wouldn't go on my own, I would take a close friend.. so the 'special treats' would still be appreciated. Maybe i'm the only one doing it then (or only one willing to admit it). As I can't afford to go on a holiday anytime soon, I don't feel guilty for 'stealing' the opportunity from a couple. Short of winning a large sum of money on the lottery, I won't get a chance to go on an all inclusive holiday to barbados/mauritis or wherever so i'll still enter unless the T&C's specifically state otherwise0

If that was the case, then so be it. I already know it wouldn't be a guarantee anyway so I wouldn't cry about it. I'd be gutted but if I didn't pay to enter, I haven't really lost anything anyway
There have been a couple of comps which had mandatory questions of planned or confirmed wedding dates so I skipped those as I'm obviously not getting married.. but I enter any that don't ask for details. For all I know, I could meet the woman of my dreams tomorrow and marry her next weekend anyway so then i'd qualify :rotfl:0 -
I would agree that a honeymoon would only apply to a marriage rather than just any couple. However, I sometimes enter the honeymoon competitions, if they don't specify new bride/groom or wedding date, as I would love to take my wife on a second honeymoon; particularly this year, coming up to our 30th anniversary. It is a bit vague as to whether a honeymoon competition only applies to currently singles who are about to get married, or to just newly married, or to currently married couples, and how long you would need to be married for the requirements not to apply - one week, one month, 30 years....?0

In the absence of any indication to the contrary the standard Oxford dictionary definition for honeymoon would probably sufficeA holiday spent together by a newly married couple:
The original reference was to affection waning like the moon, but later the sense became 'the first month after marriage'
Ideally the T&C's should spell out any specifics that could otherwise be open to interpretation.0 -
I don't enter those as I fear winning then unable to claim, I'd be so gutted if that were the case.
But yes, I notice a lot of honeymoon comps. Although there are a lot of other holiday comps, I'd still like to increase my chances of entering all that I can. Should newlyweds not be allowed to enter normal holiday comps and leave it for us Bridget Jones'?
I do enter 'family' ones depending on the wording in the t&c's, if it says 'up to' 2.4 children then it's fair game for all.0
