PFO Closure

Options
Has anyone had this done? From personal experience, how did it feel, how long was the recovery time afterwards (how quickly were you back at work for example) and did you have to stay on medication afterwards either permanently or for a period of time?

I've been told this is an option being considered in my case and the Internet is full of weird stories so just wondered if anyone here had any first hand knowledge.

Hi I had PFO closure and mitral valve repair at the same time.Is it being done by OHS ?.I felt getting better after about 8 weeks and took 12 weeks off work.6 months later and still a little pain in the chest when I sneeze but basically almost back to normal

Crikey that is a really long recovery time! But I'm glad you are now feeling better.

No, they are suggesting a catheter based approach not OHS and I don't have any other heart problems to be fixed at the same time. The PFO was only discovered because I suffered a small stroke and they were looking into the reasons for this as I am only in my mid 40s with no obvious risk factors.

Your recovery should be quick then, not much longer then having an angiogram . I was fine the next day after this procedure ,just a bit sore where they go in with the catheter which they done via the wrist and healing is a bit quicker then the groin
