11-day-old roast chicken - safe for making stock?

Options
Ok, so you'd think this was obvious but it doesn;t smell or look bad, and I really don;t want to throw it away as there's quite a bit of meat on it.

Do you think I'd be safe making stock out of it? Has anyone else used a roast chicken this old?

It's been in the fridge since it was cooked, and I do have an iron constitution...

Personally I wouldn't risk it, eleven days is a bit too long, I generally try to make stock etc within three days of cooking the chicken ...

Chicken can be difficult - no, I would chuck it.

I've done it ater 8 days before now and it was fine, but 11 feels a bit long even for me. But it really doesn;t smell of anything but roast chicken, and surely if it were dangerous it would stink?

God i must be too fussy!!! I will only keep a chicken for two days, after that the dog get's it. I certainly wouldn't use it.

I'll eat anything unless it's moving - if there's mould I scrape it off. I get it from my nan - she wouldn;t waste anything no matter how dodgy.

Put it this way... if a restaurant were found to be serving 11 day old roast chicken, 'environmental health' would probably close them down!

I wouldn't eat or do anything with cooked chicken after the 3 day mark.

But I'd happily do a week or just over! It isn;t off at that point! But OK this time I'll throw it away even though it pains me to waste food.

  • No It really isn't worth it.

Anything fruit or veg I would go with - but really meat or dairy is just asking for trouble.

My hubby had salmonella years ago and its nasty it just keeps going strong, you think your over it and feeling better and then a too hot or too cold drink and your laid low again - just not worth it if you have a choice over what your eating - his was from a restaurant in Athens and we didn't know at the time but please don;t risk it.
