am i eligible? very confised!

I really need some help finding out if I am eligible to get a mortgage this year. I am looking to buy a house with my boyfriend, both first time buyers. I am a newly qualified teacher, I start a new job in september as a teacher. At the school I am working at, and at virtually every other school in my area all new appointments receive a one year contract initially, this is kind of a probationalry period, every teacher gets this, the school have already paid for me to do my MA over the next 2 years so its not exactly likely they are going to be getting rid of me, I worked there last year during my course so they already know me very well. the situation remains that I only have a one year contract. I have been on the HSBC and the halifax site where they have like online advisers to ask them about this, one said they thought it would be fine as I am a teacher, the other said they won't give a mortgage if you are on a probationary period. please, for the sake of my sanity could someone give me some advice on this.

so much appreciated for any help!

You should be fine with several lenders. If you are going to go direct to the lenders, make sure you get it all agreed beforehand regarding your employment scenario, and don't be afraid to ask them to put it in writing.

Seem to hear on the board all too often how things were said over the phone or in person, which then don't materialise. At least this way you would have something to fall back on
