I live rurally in the north west presently but when I lived in the south east it would take me 5.5 hours to drive to this destination, but half an hour of that was sat in heavy traffic through the nearest town. Should I want to work in Manchester its a 1.5-2 hour bus ride or the same via 3 trains. I would do it if the money was right, so its not just a situation unique to the south east. I personally think perhaps the underwriter doesn't have experience of typical London commutes, but due to the uncertainty you face I would suggest you see a true whole of market mortgage adviser and look at another lender. If you do this put the emphasis on a lender that's fast, as they all differ in how quickly they can do things. You wouldn't want to lose your dream home because your mortgage isn't sorted. Another reason to use a broker is they WILL argue your case with underwriters far better than you could and they have BDM contacts with all lenders, they will know whose underwriters are mostly likely to do this for you. Selecting a mortgage is so much more than just the seemingly competitiveness of the mortgage itself. Good luck xI am a Mortgage Adviser
