in Cutting tax
Afternoon Everyone
I've been trying to decifer my payslip as my work like to make it extra confusing.... Basically I'm 28, earning £17,400 a year but the past few months I've been doing some overtime which is coming in at approx £300 extra a month.
According to my payslip my tax code is 1066L? I thought the current one was 1060L?
My total earnings, before tax so far are £16,696.28 yet I have had £1,601.83 NI deducted and £2,235.40 Tax deducted?
Is that correct? I've used the HMRC Tax app and it suggests otherwise

1066L suggests you have an additional £60 personal allowance. This is usually to do with a uniform. Do you wear a uniform for your job and claimed tax relief for it?
NIC is looked at each pay period so you need to check each individual one.
For tax, what period is the pay to date for?0 -
thanks for replying
no uniform allowance, I sit in an office all day installing software remotely.
I also receive fuel allowance and an extra 'pot' of money which is used to buy holidays/pension etc but that isn't technically included....I think my base salary (what I actually take home) is £17400, but the extra pot tops it up to almost 20k, which I think is causing the confusion....I know I posted the other day about the fuel allowance, which I think was you, said would be taxed but that it why there is 2 figures on the list - 1 to account for the amount I would be taxed on
This is a screen shot from my latest payslip, which is for the month of January (Had to copy it into word)
Earnings Amount Year To Date
Monthly Flex Fund 1,679.39 16,661.45
*Premium at 100% 110.15
Premium at 100% 15.74 545.49
*Premium at 150% 173.14
Premium at 150% 94.44 1,432.34
Travel allow net amount 229.36 2,293.60
Travel allow gross up 107.87 1,078.87
Total Flex Charges 219.66- 1,943.00-
***Total Earnings 2,190.43 20,068.75
|
|
Taxes
Employee NIC 182.21 1,601.83
Tax paid 260.20 2,235.40
|***Total Tax Deductions 442.41 3,837.23
So even if I input the £20,068.75 into the hmrc tax thing, it still suggests I have been taxed too much.
I have emailed my payroll but not yet had a response0 -
Tax of £2235.40 is spot on for £20068.75 at M100

The HMRC app is for the full tax year though. We are only on month 10.
So your total income to date is £20,086.75 rather than £16,696.28.
With a tax code of 1066L your tax is correct to date.
You should call HMRC to ask why you are gettin an extra £60 personal allowance though (they should have sent you a coding notice to explain).0 -
what is M10? the tax code at the top of my payslip shows 1066L
the flex fund, is the money which I use to buy holidays/pension etc - there are certain things I cannot opt out of (death in service etc) and regardless of what I choose, I wouldn't receive extra money each month. It is basically a use it or lose it0 -
M10 is January, 10th month in the tax year..0
