Looking forward to watching The Big Short.

As I rent movies via iTunes I'm quite choosy in what I like to watch, most recently Everest.

I think it's sad that at the end of the movie it was reported that nothing has changed and a rebranded version of these dodgy products is emerging again (as reported by Bloomberg). What does it take to truly regulate these criminals? (Apart from 95% of the public to wake up and realise they are being constantly screwed)?

I think other than highlighting that these people are untouchable I doubt it will have much impact.

Get a broker and find a reasonably liquid company. Then buy a short CFD through them. A CFD acts like a share but doesn't attract stamp duty. Or simply take the short side of a spread bet.

Yeah, Government and especially muni debt could well be in a bad place as rates rise. The muni debt market has got 'next financial crisis after small oil' written all over it.

Well, in one of Michael Lewis' books he already talks about the muni debt in the US and how it has bankrupted certain counties. He goes to visit a mayor/fireman in one of them. So it's happened/ing already.

It is why I get so angry with socialists trying to take the moral high ground against austerity. They should go and visit places that have been decimated by foolish debt.

Part of the problem with munis is that they have advantageous tax treatment. There are plenty of people out there that will buy any old !!!!!! if it comes with a tax advantage.

As a result you can sell munis to people and they won't look too deeply into what they're buying.

Yup, lots of muni issues have defaulted but there is a potential mass default out there. It's not a sure fire thing by any means but it is a risk.

It's nearly ten years since the crisis blew up. There has been inflation along the way, but with little headway getting an uptick, the problem for governments in repaying their bonds gets greater. Enforced rollovers would only move the can..._

Rate rises are the key issue. Just can't see a rise on the horizon in the UK.

Just saw the film. Bale & Carell came across as caricatures rather than real people.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

It's quite fun but a documentary it ain't.
