How to go into lenses...

Hi! I want to switch my glasses into contact lenses and I asked at local Boots and they want me to book appointment for £25 to have an eye check etc. What is the cheapest way to have consultation and start getting contact lenses? Is there any cashback, or any good offer, or even free via NHS? I plan to buy my contact lenses from the web, as I suppose it will be cheaper, but I do need regular checks, can you advise me please what to do?

I use a local independent optician. I have found them cheaper for monthly lenses than the Internet. If I rip a lens they replace it for free. Every year I get a free contact lens check (not eye test). They provide free solution. I sometimes uses daily lenses for water sports and they are cheaper from my optician than from the Internet.

Shop around, don't assume online is always cheapest and look at the total cost.

Hi, we move threads if we think they’ll get more help elsewhere (please read the forum rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

I’ve moved your thread from the ‘I wanna’ board to the ‘Health & Beauty’ board, where it is better suited.

Why not ask your friends for local recommendations? Even the national chains can vary greatly between branches.

  • When i wanted to check my eye sight, i booked an appointment with the eye doctor and she told me the prescription i needed. I then proceeded to contactlenses.co.uk and found amazing prices which could not be beat anywhere else. i tried a few other online companies, but found this one was the most reliable with fast shipping and great price. they also have a re order program which means every month i automatically receive my lens for a month! no need to forget to order, they have you covered. crystal 1 day are my fav :)
