My Credit Report is completely wrong!!

Options
I have just looked at my credit report with experian and it is so wrong it's unbelieable.

Firstly my score is 999. When I got the free trial last year before I applied for my mortgage it was in the 800s however it says my last report was generated in 2003!

Next, NONE of my credit cards are showing up. At all.

My current mobile provider who I've been with for 14 months is not listed, though my old one is listed correctly.

Also, I checked the addresses and it says I have 4 linked addresses. However 2 of them are houses on my new street, but different numbers. I don't understand this at all. Why would other addresses be showing up.

Also, my current bank account is on there but says it was shut in 2012! I do have an overdraft on that account so I figure it should be on there!

It says I have £0 credit available. I actually have about £2000 available.

It also says i have made no credit applications in the past 6 months. I have, I applied for a 0% credit card which I got and a loan for emergency homeimprovements which I also reciveved.

My address on the electoral role is still listed as my previous address, although I did only inform them that i had moved about 2 weeks ago so i guess that may not have shown up yet.

I am totally confused becasue when I looked at experian last summer the credit report was accurate.

Help, please tell me what I need to do!

Not all accounts appear on all CRA's reports, some report to one, two, or all three.
Your credit file is not to be regarded as 100% accurate, all of the time, sometimes creditors simply don't update the records, or are slow to do so.
If any info is wrong, use the "dispute" button to get it put right.

  • Thanks for the reply.

Yes I am aware that credit reports are not always 100% accurate but this seems terribly innaccuarte to the point where I don't recognise someof it.

Last year everything seemed to be on it but now it's not and thereare extra linked addresses etc which I've never lived at.

    Just seems very wrong. And I don't believe I'm a 999 for a minute!!

Your credit score or rating means nothing, no lender can see it no matter what they say.

Theres 2 other reference agencies you should check to see if they hold the correct information.

Does it really matter that much to you ?

You do know that number is just created out of thin air, and no one can see it but you and them ?

The ONLY important thing is your credit history, not score.

I couldn't care less what mine says, but then I don't ever want credit again, do you ?

  • No it really doesn't mean that much to me. I was joking, because getting the top score seems ridiculous to me in my position.

I'm not bothered about the number but I'd like to know the information they hold on me is at least accurate.

It's not. And if it's not correct for them perhaps it's not correct elsewhere which is what concerns me.

I only asked for some advice because they're substantial inaccuracies!!

  • And no I don't want credit again.

But I might want a remortgage or a mobile phone etc.

The fact is we need a healthy score even if we don't want a ton of credit card and loan debt.

Not every lender will report to all 3 agencies, some just 2 and some will use just 1 so there may well be some differences. As long as the information eg address is correct etc etc is all you need to worry about.

    Hi Shiftthisdebt,

I’m sorry that your report is not showing your current details, from what you have said it sounds like an older membership has been re-activated, rather than the one that you used recently.

When you view your report through CreditExpert all the information that we hold in your name at the addresses entered in your profile is retrieved.

If you have not yet updated your current address in your profile then the accounts and searches listed at this address would not show when you view it.

Your Experian score is calculated from the information being retrieved on the report, so if the information changes, your Experian score can change too.

    Linked addresses are generally created:

    - When a company moves an account from one address to another.
    - When a company searches your credit report at more than one address during an application.
    - From information you have given to us.

A linked address can also be created if you’ve used an address for correspondence whilst away from home, or if someone you’re financially linked to has used the address. This could include deliveries for mail order goods or mobile phones.

You don’t have to have lived at the address for it to be linked. However, you – or someone you’ve had a financial connection with should have had a financial connection to an address for it to appear on your report.

If you have updated your profile and still have missing information, or would like us to query the address links, please contact us and we can help with this.

    Kind regards
    Neil

  • Slight hijack to the thread; when I was trying to remortgage twice last year through reach financial services, I had to get a credit report.
I've seen comments like 'it's a waste of time' etc.
But, if you're told to do it , what happens if you refuse?
