Savings and ISA's

Given the welcome changes for banking options for BR's and Ex BR's reported on this forum - had anyone had similar experiences being accepted for decent savings accounts and ISA's? I have never understood the reluctance of banks to accept BR's for savings anyway...

Comments

  • Must admit I've never had a problem with either savings accounts or ISAs.

I have accounts with YBS (savings account) and Virgin Money (both savings and ISA) and previously a savings account with The Nottingham. Can't comment on the big banks although their rates tend to be much worse anyway so I haven't bothered to try to open an account!!

What you won't get is the decent current accounts that pay more interest until after your BR falls off your credit report, presumably because they usually come with an overdraft facility (even if you don't want it!).

It's usually been the case that if you have a "current" account with any bank/building society, they are only too keen for you to to have a savings account or ISA (in fact, Natwest lets you set up a savings account in literally a couple of clicks in their online banking when you have a current account)

Given there is now a choice of 10+ different basic accounts (many of which have online banking), getting a savings account or ISA should be a lot simpler than it has been.

Then again, most banks and building societies are not well known for using logic or common sense - so time will tell :)
