Several Questions Regarding Website Competitions

Options
I started comping back last Summer. Long story short I entered dozens every day for a month and never won a thing, so quickly gave up. I gave comping another go from 5th January onwards, and won 7 small prizes in a fortnight! (5 on Twitter, 2 Facebook). I have now decided to give these comps a break, and try my luck at website competitions to try and win a bigger prize, like a holiday or cash.

I have several questions regarding website competitions which I hope you don't mind me asking :)

1) I have yet to ever win a website comp. I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to share like a print screen of the kind of email they send you if you have won, so I know what to look out for!

2) If you do eventually win something from a certain website/company, does this diminish your chances of winning another competition of theirs in the future? Has anyone ever won twice from the same website?

3) If you don't subscribe to their newsletter or share the competition to Facebook/Twitter etc. does this lower your chances of winning even if it's not compulsory?

4) Does anyone know approximately how many entries these website competitions receive? I honestly can't even begin to imagine!

5) Are website competitions easier or harder to win than Facebook/Twitter? I'm guessing harder, as I have yet to win anything from them.

I think that's it for now. I will add to the list later if I think of anything else. Sorry for so many questions! I hope you don't mind me asking.

Thanks in advance :)

I've always wondered about point 3 as well. It normally means that I end up subscribing to newsletters that I don't want!

    1) They vary so seeing one would not be any help with others unless you won from the same site

    2) No (unless the T&C's say there is a limit) and Yes

    3) No, not if the competition is run correctly

    4) Varies by 100,000's

    5) Depends on the competition.

    such as this about newsletters
11 If you opt in or out of their mailing / 3rd party mailings, does it affect your chances?
I ALWAYS indicate a big fat 'no' to both of those, unless it is something that I'd really like to hear more about or a comp you enter by signing up for their newsletter.

It should make no difference to whether you are included in the comp or not, although some smaller companies may break the rules. I have to say I’ve been really lucky with wins & it seems to have made no difference whatsoever to my chances by always opting out where I can. It just means that I end up with less spam & on less junk mail lists.
  • In response to point 5. I enter loads of twitter and facebook competition, but I win very little on these - more from websites.
I really do believe though its just down to luck - You win what you win (Except twitter - I think there's certainly ways to increase your odds!)

Sometimes you win nothing, sometimes you win loads, sometimes you win all the time!! (then you get sad at the droughts) haha :)

On some of the magazine competitions I'm surprized how you occasionally see the same names repeatedly winning the prizes.

An example of this is the £200 prizes on Bella magazine.

One entrant wins the £200 twice in three weeks !

and that came just two weeks after another person with the that same surname won it here:

This is amazing really as you would think they must be receiving tens of thousands of entries.
