Preventing tights from laddering

Does anybody have any magic hints to orevent tights, (especially new ones) from laddering as you struggle to put them on?
I'm not as flexible as I used to be bending down and once again this morning I have laddered a new pair in the process of trying to put them on and pull them up.
I always wear socks with trousers but there are some formal occasions when only tights are appropriate and my ladders always have a perverse habit of occurring below the visible knee line!

I'm sure I read putting them in the freezer for a while helps
My mum has cotton gloves she uses when putting hers on, says less chance of snagging on her nails0 -
Make sure your toenails are kept short and use a pair of soft cotton gloves when you put them on.There used to be a company called Taylor Woodwards which made nylons called 'Lifelons' back in the early 1960s and they used to say if they didn't last 6 months they would replace free of charge I never had the 'front' to challenge this but they did last an awful long time, but they were quite expensive to buy around four times the price of the normal ones, and if I remember rightly the main colour was 'American tan' a sort of mid brown brown shade and not that appealing

Just a few suggestions to add:
I think it's the struggling to get into them bit that jumped out at me. Are you sure you're buying the right size? It could be that you're pulling them around more than necessary as they're too small. I always buy large or even extra large to make sure they fit well as although I'm slim I am tall.
Try sitting on a fairly low chair or stool to minimise the bending.
Perhaps stockings would be easier to get on?
This time of the year I wear a lot of opaque tights rather than sheer ones. They're much warmer and far more hard wearing.
It's not a look I like but I have known people wear very long skirts with knee length pop socks underneath.0 -
Also consider the "sock helper" recommended for post hip replacement. Helps them glide on. And definitely go for the thickest you can get away with and the largest that will stay up!
Recommend My Tights for good Vale and wide range0
