Because they aren't allowed to fudge the results of an interview or the score system to make it look like the external candidate won, that's the problem.

But it isn't a case of how well you score! They aren't obliged to offer you a job if you get the highest score.
And in reply to the "they got someone to do the same job cheaper, it's a win win". No it's not. It's a false saving. The company now has to pay all over again for training for that individual.

Pay what? In my old place I was a trainer for a few intakes. I didn't get paid a penny more (nobody did), and they could spare losing me in the day to day running of the core job. I was also involved in making most of the training material.

There are usually minimal costs associated with training new starters, particularly because companies NEED T+D departments anyway!
It will take them a year to get used to all the bespoke systems and there is no real evidence they will be reliable. If it was my company, I know who I'd have chosen. The one that had already been doing the job for several years, is reliable and needed no additional training. And that's not being biased, that's just common sense.

But if you're the hiring manager and higher management is nagging you to cut costs then you'll show some consideration for the cheaper option! Life isn't always about the most competent person for the job!

Its funny but I had an interview the other week and pretty much nailed it. The place was even boasting that if I got to the "benchmark" level then I had a job lined up. Ok great. Maths test nailed (finance based job), competency nailed. Roleplay nailed but missed out one minor thing and acknowledged it. Went in with a 5 year plan, self studying a relevant Q and member of a professional body. They rejected me and gave me some waffle reasons. I actually found out that an ex colleague of mine from my last job in a call center actually got the job! She was struggling when I was there (failing data protection) and I gave her 1-1 coaching on it! You explain to me why they hired her over me! :rotfl:

The thing is, though, that some things just aren't meant to be and sometimes things are going on which are completely out of your control.
