Hi, I am new here and need a answer to a question. I am thinking of opening a help to buy isa, however I have owned a property in the past but I had to declare my self bankrupt which has now ended and has been removed from my credit file. During the bankruptcy I lost the house back to the bank. Does this make me ineligible?

You don't own property now so you can benefit from the H2B ISA.
The ISA does not guarantee you will get a mortgage.I am a Mortgage Broker

I have read online there's a form to sign that says in the declaration that I have never owned any property in the past.0

If the form has that question, answer it truthfully, same with mortgage apps. The last thing you want is to be blacklisted."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Well then there's no point in opening the account0

No - you cannot.
Anyone who has owned a property or had an interest in one is ineligible.
Former owners may be eligible for other help to buy schemes but not the help to buy isa.

Thanks for the reply that's what I thought. Now another question. If my wife opens a help to buy isa (she has never owned a property before) then once she has saved say the maximum for example of £12000 then she would get another £3000 from the state, would we as a couple be then to buy a property in a joint mortgage?0
