Student pays off loans with wins

Interesting article I found on ITV about a student who is apparently paying off her loans with wins.
Nice idea in theory, but I suspect most of these prizes are not exchangeable for cash so I'm not sure how winning a "three course dinner", for example, is going to help raise some extra cash!
Good for her though...I wish I'd thought of comping when I was a student and had all hours of the day to waste away, I'd have been able to enter EVERYTHING!:o

Student pays off loans with £14,000 won in competitions
Most of the value comes from one win worth £11,200 which included £10,000 towards student loans the rest is fairly average stuff that probably wouldn't otherwise have got a mention (and a fee)0 -

Give it a try and then give up after a week because they didn't win anything.

"A student from north London is paying off her loans by making £14,000 in five months"
Should read:
A student from north London is paying off her loans by winning competitions and selling the prizes in five months
These articles are always so misleading! Thanks to all posters :A0 -
I agree, totally misleading!
A student from north London is paying off her loans by making £14,000 in five months simply by winning competitions.
It's the use of that word "simply" - the papers seem to use this every time they interview someone who seemingly lives off their comp wins - all you have to do is simply win some competitions!
The fact that this student won £10k specifically towards her uni costs, makes the £14k total seem a bit less spectacular.
If she's won £4k worth of prizes that she's sold on then fair play to her, but if she's anything like us, the majority of her wins will be stuff like boxes of chocolates, shampoo, cereal, film-related "goody bag" tat etc.
I cringe every time I read these articles that make out it's the easiest income in the world, just "simply" enter some competitions, sit back and let the £££ roll in!0 -

Her main win was the WinYourFees comp run by Currys and PC World where she won £10000 to pay her student fees plus a load of tech. So she has paid her fee's without selling prizes (and if you read the article it lists her wins and a lot of them are small time and not really sellable - meal at a local restaurant, tickets to local food festival etc)You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

She could make more money working on the Wallace & Gromit team. Advertising fine cheeses.
