Has anyone tried anything that works on Dark Circles under the eyes, I have tried numerous items that I have purchased all claiming to work wonders and they never do, I have also tried almond oil, Vitamin E, etc etc and nothing seems to be working. They are making me look so old (I would say and tired but I am that anyway)
I am at the moment being treated for under-active thyroid, Vitamins B-12 and D deficiency and being investigated following 2 positive lupus tests!!!
We are off to New York in about 10 weeks time and I would love to make them look better than they do now, I currently spend quite a bit of time covering them as best as I can with pancake makeup but this is not ideal so I wondered if there was anything others had tried that may have worked for them.
Thanks x x x

It is my guess that your medical conditions may be a cause, if so or if the dark circles are hereditary then creams and potions may not help much, it is one area where the cosmetic companies are rather good at promises without being able to deliver:eek:
I am a huge follower of beauty blogger Caroline Hirons aka the beauty mouth blog, she suffers from dark circles herself.
The first link is about eye creams and medical conditions and the second is a list which comes up if you search dark circles on her blogs. Read the comments as well as the blogs as often people also report on their own problems/solutions.
Sadly she deals with the top end of the market and her recommended products usually are pretty expensive, but you may find something of help here somewhere.

FWIW my advise would be to trawl around the higher end beauty counters and try and get recommendations and samples of their products for disguise only and see if you can find one that suits you and then invest in it, don't be content with immediately buying something that seems great in the store lighting, often it will not be right in natural light or other light conditions. I live squillions of miles from a Bobbi Brown retailer but will be investigation the serum concealer thingy when I get to one.

Thank you Maddiemay, I will take some time to read through the links, I did wonder if the health conditions are maybe the cause, I am currently on my second intensive course of B12 injections, every other day, last one tomorrow - then thankfully one a month, was on three monthly injections but my level dropped way too low again, so GP trying to boost it.
I am off to Oxford Street soon, so will see what the cosmetic counters have to offer in the way of concealers specifically for this area, would like to get them looking a bit better before we go to New York at Easter, waited a long while for this trip and want lots of pictures that I can look at and not notice my eyes straight away.Fibro-Warrior0 -
Thanks Maddiemay for that information. I have had black circles/puffy eyes all my life and have just accepted that it must be genetic, but if there was a miracle cure I'd be all in. I dont even bother to disguise them any more, maybe wearing glasses helps a bit :cool:0

I use Vichy Idealia eye cream, which helps a little - it doesn't do miracles but it is as effective as far more expensive products and forms a good base for foundation. I use YSL Touche Eclat foundation and that helps appearance wise.
One thing I've discovered recently is a subtle blusher (on cheeks, not eyes!) is a good way of distracting from them. Worth a try?0 -
I have similar problems, between an under active thyroid and eczema around my eyes the skin is very dark. For a number of years I've been using Cliniques 'all about eyes' cream and I've found it to be the best eye cream to help with the darkness and dryness. Clinique are also really good about giving away a reasonable sized sample to try before buying, I once got a foundation sample that lasted a month!! I also now use the Clinique eye primer which masks the redness on my upper lids better than anything else I've tried before. (Promise I don't work for them though wish I could for the employee discount!!)
I was 20 when my under-active thyroid was diagnosed and despite 14 years on medication I still don't feel 100%, yet every blood test I've had since has said everything's fine. The last test I hadn't taken my medication regularly (if at all) for several months, told the nurse who seemed sympathetic that I'd never felt right, she said she'd put a note for the thyroid nurse yet when the tests came in I just got 'all fine, see you in 18 months'I'm trying to get back onto the meds daily to see if it helps a bit. Hope you have better luck!

Thanks for your replies.
Lynsayjane I am so glad that I am not the only one who has not felt any benefit from being on thyroxine, my GP spend 2 years testing me and saying all fine before I through a wobbly, and she finally referred me to hospital, the test they carried out was not thorough enough, had my meds upped once a couple of months after starting them but since I get the same thing your in the normal range, but what if thats not my normal range!! I have put on at least 2 stone which I am struggling to loose, and just been told that my cholesterol is high, but that could be associated with the Lupus. I would love to have just one day where I feel 'normal' again not tired or in pain.Fibro-Warrior0 -
Google allergic shiners. They may be allergy related.0

I have off/on borderline B12 issues, and too have dark circles.
I use a green concealer first on them, then use one or two different concealers on top. The green is meant to counteract the blue in the darkness.
The green concealer is this one from Boots, cheap as chips at £1.99! I then use Benefit Boiing concealer, sometimes followed by a Boots version of touche eclat.* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *

I really think the skin around your eyes is a reflection of your overall health. If you are tired, lacking vitamins, poorly etc it will show. I dont think any lotions or potions are worth the money.
Take a look at your diet, try to get some good nutrients in there. As you are dealing with some health issues I think for now concealer is your best bet.
When concealing under eye, bring it down like a big triangle to a point at the top of your cheek so it doesn't look too cakey and pale just under there and normal everywhere else.It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'
