INvoicing ex employer

I am not sure if I can legally invoice my previous employer. When I was working for him I secured a deal which I should have been paid 10% on. As we then agreed a payment plan I was only paid 50% of the deal at the time. The deal is now about to enter its second term and I would have been able to have received the second instalment. On the advice of a solicitor friend he advised I should still be able to receive this as my contract clearly stated I should be paid for any 'deals introduced' without mention of this not being payable should I leave the company. I wanted to know, am I within my rights to invoice my previous employer for this money? it is circa £3000 - if it was a lot less I would of let it go as I don't want to cause any ill will. Thank you in advance for any advice!

    No, not an invoice.

A letter before action, demanding payment (gross amount) you then need to deal with HMRC as to the tax payments.

I would start with a polite phone call reminding them the payment is due and how would they like to pay you, bank transfer or cheque.

Can't see how you can lose by following this advice from getmore4less. You could even phrase it "I know you'll be paying me and I just remembered I need to give you my bank details. To whom should I send/give them?".

And it leaves no doubt as to your certainty about the situation.
