One of the arguments for not restricting this kind of behaviour is that we are effectively being subsidised by the Chinese government in the short term. The trick is avoiding them gaining a monopoly in the long term and exploiting it.

I worked with Chinese lecturers on manufacturing strategy a long time back.

One thing they do have is a game plan. They never had the objective of just becoming the sweatshop of the world. Manufacturing was a just a way in to the higher value functions.

They already supply half the world's steel. I'd say they are on the way to a monopoly. It's UK steel which is toast.

Well, seems it's out of bear territoy again now.

Appears to be on the "hopes" of more stimulus.

    It's just techhie speak.

There will be far more support levels that resistance levels, and if there isn't I'm sure one of the Chart fella's will "invent" one.

In a Bull market you buy the dips, and in a Bear market you sell the rallys.

Overall whether or not it's a Bull or Bear market is irrelevent.

If nothing else it's good to see that the FT blog has got out the Rally Monkey again.

Bounce? Sell off this afternoon if people are scared of holding over the weekend?

I've got my fingers hovering over the sell button on my two tobacco share holdings. These have been good earners for me and in theory should continue to be. But suddenly I'm a bit nervous that I should have more in cash than I currently do. I've embarked on a new venture (quit my full time lucrative job) and maybe I don't want to be sitting on too many shares during a risky time in my life. On top of that there has always been the risk that at some point a big piece of legislation really hits their (tobacco) earnings. Over the long run, that seems more likely. Hmmmmm.....

I personally couldn't invest in tobacco companies.

However, I can't see any big legislation that will impact them that badly at the moment. In some parts of the EU you still get train station posters of women in suspenders clutching a pack of camels, often topless, to promote fags.

Would take a pretty big shift to turn that sort of thing around.

In which EU train station have you seen this, Graham?
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

Well I can't tell you the name as I couldn't even pronounce it. However, was in the suburbs in Germany.

Also seen them on the TV in Belgium.

Heres some "lighther" examples of recent billboard ads for Marlborough.

Heres the other sort of stuff I was referring to (this time selling alcohol)

Yes, I believe tobacco billboard advertising is still allowed in Germany and some Eastern Europe states.
I'd be surprised to see topless women on those ads though. :)
