Blood test results - close to diabetic

had some blood tests done as been tired and generally run down, all came back OK apart from the test for diabetes, on a scale the Dr said over 48 is diabetic, and I scored 43. Its been a huge wake up call, I'm a normal weight, 38 year old male who rarely drinks and never smoked in my life. I walk the dog every other day for 1 1/2 miles roughly but I am a sucker for a chocolate and fizy drinks. Other than cutting out sugar, what else can I do please?

This has been a huge wake up call, and I am a little scared if I'm honest.

  • I am in the same position, I have embarked on a further healthy eating regime. Sadly I think you know what you have to do....

If you like fizzy drinks how about sparkling water and a slice of lemon?

  • Cut out sugar totally and replace it with Xylitol, in moderation. Tastes just like sugar but better for your health (especially teeth).

Why are you getting all worried about this when you have actually been told you are in the normal range? The normal range has a low and a high for reason, and that is that not all people will have exactly the same results, however, as long as you are within the normal range and you remain stable, then there is nothing to be concerned about.

If you are worried, do another test in 3 months time, but in the meantime, relax, you are in the normal range of results.

The OP is speaking of the HBA1C number, not the blood sugar number. Completely different.

I understand that people with diabetes should eat a low salt diet, as well as low sugar

Perhaps that would be something to look in to

    Nothing "funny" about it.

Despite a family history of type II diabetes I'm am not diabetic. I am however very clued up.......I have made it my business to learn as much as I can.

So far my knowledge must have helped me because I am 64 and clear, whereas family members succumbed in their early 50s.

Scoff as much as you like, but learning about this stuff is important...its only by "being an expert":rotfl: that has kept me healthy........

Let's face it the information is easy enough to find.

It's a pity a few more people don't bother to become "experts".
