Been given the chance of a second part time job will i be taxed ?

I currently work 20 hours a week at a rate of pay of £ 6.70 and have been offred a p/t time cleaning job in the evening on 12 hours a week pay is also £6.70, so this would take me to 32 hours a week was just wondering if any one know what the tax would be, do i contact my first employer about the second job, or will the second employer sort the tax out.

just to say i am single and over 40 if this helps.

How about entering the figures into http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/tax-calculator/

It's most likely you won't pay any tax or NI on the second job but it depends on how much you've earned in the whole tax year.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

You'll be earning just over 11k, so yes you will pay some tax. You can ask HMRC to see if they'll split your tax code over each job, so you get the correct amount taken. If you don't your second job will be taxed at 20% of all your income. Then at the end of the tax year if you've overpaid you can claim it back.

Paying tax shouldn't stop you taking the job, you'll still be getting more money than you were before!

it should give you the info as to how much you will pay per year on that salary. Obviously not taking into consideration that we are part way through the tax year and holiday pay (or not).

But for a year on 214.40/week you would pay a couple of hundred in tax, and about 100 in NI.

Yes, call them early (just before 8 a.m.). If one or other of your employers offers a workplace pension (or some other scheme) you may well be able to reduce your taxable pay to below your personal allowance and therefore pay no tax at all.
