Hi! Apologies if this is going in the wrong place.
I have an old debt of £19,000 which I was paying £5 p.m on when I was single and on I.S. A few months ago they rang to insist I increase the payment to £10. I am now married and my only income is CTC. My husband has just started a new business. We don't expect to earn more than £6000 this year and have yet to see a profit due to start-up costs. We're living on our tax credits atm.
How much of this can they take? I don't own a house or car. My husband says he is not to be held responsible for my debts before marriage and that CTC is protected. I'm very worried because they are always so unpleasant on the phone and they're going to ring me soon
Thanks in advance.

If you write to them use the national debthelpline website template letters and there payment calculator they will see your genuine situation and probably are more likely to accept.
I am more worried about your husbands attitude its not very supportive he took you on debts and all - and I am sure you are worth it
Explain to your hubby that if you don't handle this right and come to a payment agreement they could only could if they wanted take you to court and get a CCJ against you now that won't help your business!0 -
Have no advice on what they can take out of your CTC as such, but I have experience with Wescott. I find it better to deal with them in writing. They used to always try to bully me into making bigger payments but I stood firm and insisted it was all I could afford, backed up by my income and outgoings. They then left me alone and I haven't heard from them in over 2 years.Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015
