I am struggling to find any advice on the site with regards to avoiding the rip off prices suurounding funerals. It would be appreciated if anyone has got some tips to follow as we would like to follow MSE ethics to cremate a close relative. We also try to follow green ethics where financially viable.
Many thanks.

I'm sorry for your loss.
With regard to green ethics, Co-op Funerals do a "recycled materials" coffin (or at least they did 2 years ago). We have found them to be best value in Warrington, and also the most pleasant to deal with.
Cremation prices should be standard-ish wherever you are and will probably include a "service" whether religious or not - but a vicar / priest may charge extra.
We had one spray of flowers from us 4 kids - that was about £50/foot for roses - and asked for donations instead of flowers to the Hospice who cared for Mum. You could have a bouquet of home-grown flowers, or club together as a family for one spray.
Afterwards, you don't have to have a huge wake - you could just have family & closest friends only back at home or the relative's home for a quick glass of sherry & a couple of butties. This also keeps you busy before the event and stops you thinking about upsetting things.
Hope it all works out the way you want.0
