Bankruptcy in another country

Hi,
I've lived in the UK for some years. I have debts in another European country that are more than I can handle and they don't give me a lot of options regarding repayment. If I go bankrupt in that country, does it affect my credit score here or stop me being able to buy a house in the UK in the near future. My credit score here in the UK is very good.

Credit files do not currently automatically cross borders, even within the EU, although a lender here could check your credit history in your home country. Your history could be passed between various national guises of companies and institutions so choose carefully who you do business with.

If you have to go bankrupt in another EU country, look hard to see what their bankruptcy rules are first, compared to those in the UK, as they can be incredibly harsh.
I can understand that you want to keep your good credit rating here, but please consider both countries bankruptcy rules first.
