Royal Mail Postman jobs

Hi all, interested to know whether anyone here has successfully passed all of the online tests to become a postie.

My partner is very keen to do this as a job - he has applied a couple of times and he believes he did well on the sorting simulation tests. There was then a psychometric test, so clearly no right or wrong answers - but he has never heard anything back from the applications, so we are assuming his answers at this point were did not meet some criteria.

There is another position to apply for and he has the online tests to do tonight - does anyone have any advice that has done the tests on what they are looking for??

Talking to other people who do the job, I get the impression its a bit of a lottery due to the number of applicants they get.

Thanks in advance

It takes a good couple of months from applying to starting!

Tests, interview and then you have an induction day.

I passed all, completed the induction etc and lasted a month. I personally hated the role. Manual labour in all kinds of weather, unrealistic rounds & delivery times!

I went in with an expectation but was met with something very different. Others were jested that I didn't know what I had let myself in for. I worked the winter, which was awful but was told summer is worse. Overheating, dogs in gardens etc so decided this wasn't a role for me.

On the flip side, others love it. Key is management. Good luck to your partner, don't worry about timescales - it just takes ages!

Thanks RedfordML - yes I got the impression from people I spoke to as well that they aren't exactly quick off the mark with responding!! Maybe there is hope for the other ones he applied for then, they were a month or so ago.

Can you remember what you said in the psychometric tests - difficult to know if they want someone who works well on their own, as part of a team....? I think I'll watch him do the test tonight and see if I have any ideas when I see the questions.

I'm of your thinking, it wouldn't be my cup of tea - but he hates sitting in an office, would enjoy walking around in all types of weather. Sure there would be things he hasn't thought about with it (like you say, unrealistic delivery times....)

    Hi,

Yes I passed all the tests! About 6 years ago, and I'm still here! It is a very 'marmite' job though - you either love it or hate it!

With the introduction of shared vans they are looking for team players so bear that in mind.

And yes - the recruitment process does take ages!
