Mackenzie Hall

I have one of these contact letters, I am going to inore these have just moved hopuse 1 year ago but was at previous address for 18
years did have debts years ago but cleared them on a payment plan, no debts o/s for last 6 years and have just been given a mortgage. there may be a very old CCJ not sure.

After reading many posts it seems that MH are breaking every rule set out in the link below

http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/consumer_credit/oft664.pdf

Why is OFT not doing anything about it, I will no doubt receive a letter soon chasing for a debt I may or may not owe, as I do not have settlement letters for many of my old debts.

    Hi KK

You really need to complain to the Trading Standards Office nearest to Mackenzie Hall:

Strictly, and only just legally, speaking MH haven't YET done anything wrong as they have not yet mentioned a specific 'alleged debt'. If these letters continue, then they could be construed as 'harrassment' in which case it will be a matter for Trading Standards. Equally, if they have mentioned an 'alleged debt' which is statute barred, and they continue to pursue you for payment after you have told them that you are not paying, because the 'alleged debt' is statute barred, then they are also breaking the OFT guidelines.

The reporting procedure, to the Office of Fair Trading, can be a bit complicated, but for general enquiries, and to complain about a 'trader' you can either phone - 08454 040506 - or email - enquiries@oft.gsi.gov.uk

You can find more information on their websites:

    http://www.oft.gov.uk or http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk

I agree that it is unfortunate that complaints to Trading Standards only deal with individual cases. I'm not sure what the best procedure, for a general complaint, would be. Perhaps a petition to the Prime Minister?

  • The point is not yet in my case yet, but in others they are breaking guidelines, why is OFT doing something about this.

I am going to start a new thread asking anyone who has ever had contact with MH to list how any contact started and how and where is is now, to build up a case to send to OFT
