Job offer subject to credit check

I've been offered a job but it's subject to me passing a credit check.
I had some bad debts a few years ago, the final one I clear with a settlement discount on the 23rd March 2009
That was nearly 7 years ago
Will this affect my chances of getting the job?

Hi,
Defaulted credit accounts stay on your file 6 years, so if it was 2009, it should of dropped off last year.
Have you not checked your file ?

Oh god, I should of checked my credit months ago!
Npower have recorded that I didn't pay a bill for 4 months, but I'm sure I did. I need to dig out my old bank statements before I call them.
Next seem to still have a directory account open for me with £0 credit available-I think someone must of forgotten to tick the close account box!
Strangly enough the nearly 7 year old debt isn't on any of them:jDebt free date 23rd march 2009 🥳Autism is my super power 🏳️🌈 🌈✨0 -
I have had this before, don't worry. I assume your job either involves you being in a position of financial authority of having access to highly confidential information (which may make you a target for bribes or blackmail)?
If that's the case you almost certainly have nothing to worry about. What they're doing here isn't checking how reliable you are at paying back money (they're not lending you any!), they're checking how secure your finances are now, as people who are under severe pressure are considered more likely to be vulnerable to being bribed or blackmailed.0
