Hi. Like a few I've started January with a shiny new competition habit.
There are a few threads about winning / not winning often but I guess my mathematical brain is trying to work this out. When folk are saying they enter every day are we saying one competition per day or loads more? For the winners what's the average ratio of comps entered to winning anything , say for every 100 on average you might win one or for every 500?!
Really enjoying it so far - hoping for some beginners luck as they say :rotfl:

Most members here will enter multiple competitions per day, the numbers vary wildly, from 1 to 1,000.
It depends on what sort of prizes you go for - you're much more likely to win chocolates or a lipstick for example, than a holiday or tv.
There's a thread here about the number of entries competitions receive, so that might give you some idea https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4472983TOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -
There was a "test group" last year that ran for 8 months
They counted their entries & wins over the duration
The result of the "test group" was an average of 1 win for every 1,561 competitions entered
The last month it ran was September 2015

You can see the results here

25 compers entered the challenge in August
58 compers took part over the 8 months
12/26 managed to complete 4,000 comps
We were aiming for 100,000 comp entries :A
We actually entered 145,246 comps :j
We entered 1,020,876 over the 8 months
We had 93 wins :T
We had a total of 746 wins over the 8 months
That is 1 win for every 1561 comps entered
Well done all :T0 -
yep as above but personally I don't win around one win for every 1500 I would say for every 2200 comps I enter I win won but I tend to enter more higher value comps and won two holidays last year.0

Wow, I think I've done about 50 entries so far so obviously got to manage my expectations! Thanks everyone this is really interesting.0

This is why comping is not for everyone. People think its an easy/certain thing thanks to the media making it out to be so...it isnt. And when people realise this, they give up. Takes a lot of hard work and determination to keep on going when there isnt a guarantee that you'll win anything.0

It does take a lot of effort and time. I would probably say that the average calculated above is about right for most. I enter around 600 plus a day and that is without touching rafflecopters or blogs. Although lately i've been blindly going through them and won a ball of wool with a pair of knitting needles to make a pair of mans socks the other day lol No idea why i entered that. I would agree its about 1 for every 1500 to 2000 now with so many entering. The more you enter the better odds of winning something. Its as simple as that really.
The prizes will come hun just keep plodding onThen one day you'll get a surprise in the post or a winning email
August-September 2017: Lots of stuff

I would say if you want your wins to do Twitter they are quick to enter so you can do over 100 in an hour so doing this every day you should get a few wins a month and that's just from 1 hour a day.0

I think I started comping at the beginning of November, probably entered around 4000 comps since then (including multiple entries with dailies/mags) and I've had 5 wins. A £300 box of sex toys, 2 blu-rays, a £30 amazon voucher and some pom bear teddies. Not a lot but you gotta be in it to win it! When I first started, I essentially went from the last page on the board to the first and entered ones I was interested in. That took about a week. I probably missed out a few but once I'd gotten through them, I just kept on top of the fresh ones and spend about an hour per evening entering all the ones posted here. Occasionally if I have time i'll go the dailies that are spread across all the various radio sites but I don't bother with that as much now.0

I'm intrigued at some of the figures on here . Where on earth do people find 600 - 1000 per day to enter? I would really like to know. I do Facebook and Twitter ones, the mag ones and some on the MSE Competitions Board - but wouldn't get close to those kinds of figures! Any tips anyone?2017 wins: Jan : 50p Quidco, Microwaveable soup mug and can of soup (Tesco). Feb: 50p Quidco. The Stranger in the Woods: The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit (Goodreads), Evoshave, Wilkinson Hydro 5 Razor, Microwaveable soup mug and can of soup (Asda) :j0

i roughly estimate that i win 1 in 1000 competitions entered. I tend to only enter for bigger competitions but that includes littles ones too.Top wins in 2018: Trip to Iceland, helicopter ride over london, couples massage, £300 flight from Pringles, trip to Paris, cocktail making class and afternoon tea up the shard. .
Top wins in 2017:holiday to the Bahamas, trip to Paris, meal with champagne, a week in a manor house in France with £500 spending money.0
