42" smart tv

I want a new smart tv. The one I have now is a Samsung which was a brand that came highly recommended but has been a huge disappointment. I am thinking buying a LG next time.

Any thoughts, anyone?

    Depends on what you want.

    HD ?, 3D ?, 4K ?.

Better to give us idea of you want and don't want then we can work from that.

To give some idea why I say this is, I have walked into my local John Lewis shop and seen at least 20 TVs on display and in Currys/Pc, seen about 40 TVs on display.

If you have a library and they do magazines that you can read on site, see if they do the monthly subscription to Which?. They review TVs about 3 to 4 times a year.

  • LED TVs are growing in popularity. Have not heard anything adverse, so this could be added to your list of desired specs. I recently bought badly advertised smart TV on e-Bay, 6 months old for 1/4 of its current shop price. This was my best alternative to buying brand new item. :j

I'm not really bothered about HD or anything else, just 42"+ Smart TV that won't start going wrong after 2 years.

    Technology confuses me :o

LCD is pretty much old tech and everything is moving to OLED despite what Samsung and Sony (who haven't perfected OLED) will tell you. I doubt you could buy a TV that isn't at least HD.

I recently bought a 55" LG OLED and am very happy with it. It also came with a 5 year warranty.

LG 55" HD OLED is around £1700 and a 4k version is £2200. Not cheap but not outrageous either.
  • I don't think LG is better than Samsung. Next time you want to buy a new one you must watchout the specification and try one day.

I was put off LG some years ago, when a friend asked me to help set up her catalogue bought tv . The remote's battery cover was so fragile that I darn't open it, fearing it could break,so advised her to wait for the free installation visit.

We have a 42"Panasonic 650, which is now discontinued, but are very pleased with it and commented, only last night, on how good the sound is; especially as people say that the new slimmer sets have poor sound. (This is our third Panasonic and the last one is still going strong after 8 years, but I wanted a larger screen).
