O/S Daily Friday 15 January 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Still dark, damp underfoot, cold too, at least the bitterly cold wind seems to have left us. The gale force wind here seemed to get colder as the day went on yesterday.

Dinner last night was beef casserole, mash and veg. It was tasty, it was beef that I’d marinated in red wine and garlic, then cooked in the pressure cooker for a while, cooled and froze. I defrosted it and then put it in the oven and it tasted lovely – I’ve never cooked meat before in the pressure cooker. Tonight we’re having curry and rice – haven’t had curry for ages so really looking forward to that.

Yesterday I went to the training session at work it was ok. Once I got home I got going with washing, drying and ironing – still some to do – will get that done later and did a quick go over the housework. I will be heading to the SM first thing, doing the food shopping, then I have booked a pick me up facial and luxury pedicure at the Beauty salon – won’t be costing anything as mum and dad bought me a gift voucher for my birthday – so that will be a nice treat. I wrote a menu plan and shopping list based on that yesterday too, so trying to keep a tight rein on the spending.

Have good Fridays’ everyone x

Keep safe and well x

Morning all and thanks for starting us off again nmlc. What a brrrr start today, looks very frosty outside.

One DGD (5 yo) up already and watching Peppa Pig. The other two are still asleep but will be to rouse up shortly. Once they have been fed, watered, dressed and taken to school there will be the much needed Friday clean round to do and this afternoon a trip to Aldi.

Yesterday was a very tiring day as expected. Once the girls had been taken to school we made ourselves presentable and dashed off for the train to Leeds. Oncology clinic running behind as usual. Waited 1 1/2 hours to see the Consultant and then another 45 min wait for the injection. We finally got home at 6.00, absolutely shattered, the same time as DD arrived with the DGDs from swimming. Bolognese already made so just spaghetti to boil up and a garlic flatbread to throw in the oven. Middle DGD was right off it so whether she will be fit to go to school remains to be seen. We'll have her all day if not. That'll scupper some plans.

On the train home (noisy with stranding room only, though we had a seat) my phone rang. A doctor from the surgery telling me the result of the sample I left Tuesday showed the infection was still present. I didn't need telling! She agreed to leave me out a script for the a/b I think I get best results from, so that is to pick up this morning. Fingers crossed for me please!

(Eldest DGD now on the move!) GERS what a wonderful view, I am so envious. CANDLELIGHT so pleased for you that's fantastic news. ((((((((HUGS))))))) to all in need/want and take care. Have a good day all if you can xx

    Morning All

Cold and frosty, apparently snow is on the way in an hour or so, deep joy, just in time for the drive to work!

TA, that was a long day yesterday, hope your ABs do their job this time.

DD and I were going to a gin tasting evening tonight but she's not well so will have to try to give the tickets to someone else. Got a cheue for £25 from the premium bonds yesterday so need to take that to the bank.

Washing just finishing off on the radiators, the bathrooms could do with a good clean tonight.

    Happy Friday! Take care. XX

    Morning all,

Cold here again but no snow ! Off to work today and its our 'Xmas do' for the clients, we take them bowling and then for a meal its a nice day but hard work for the staff, I shall have my own group to look after.

Not sure about dinner tonight will possibly be a takeaway will see how we feel, will do a wash tonight too.

Had a call from the surveyor who works for the company who put our cavity wall insulation in a few years back they are coming next week to test it and see if its causing the damp problem in the house, I kind of hope it is a at least we will know then and can get it removed and start again.

Candlelight I am so pleased for you that's great news xxxx

    Have good days all xx

    Good morning everyone

It doesn't feel too cold here this morning but I think it's because I am already showered and dressed for a change. Hubby has left for work and DD's 13 and 15 are getting ready for school. DD14 is staying home today as she has a very sore throat and headache. She just looks washed out as well so I will keep an eye on her as she is prone to fainting.

I have my friend visiting this morning when she's dropped her daughter off at school and then when she has gone my sister is coming to see me. I haven't seen her for absolutely ages so I am really looking forward to a good catch up.

I had better run the hoover round and flick a duster over the surfaces before they come. Actually it's not too bad so a quick tidy up should suffice. As long as the kettle in on I think it will be fine :D.

We are going to order a chinese takeaway for tea so no cooking for me tonight. I did jacket potatoes with various toppings for tea last night so I have some leftovers for lunch although I may have to eat them now as I am hungry.

Well, I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all. Very cold here and snow underfoot. Not sure it will last too long though as it is wet outside. The top hinge came off the heavy kitchen door this morning so that needs sorting out when OH gets back.

Dinner tonight will be a chilli with rice so have just put everything in the sc. We're out of bread so need to get that sorted in a bit as well. Apart from that I need to finish a curtain to place on the shoe cupboard as we have such a draft voting from there and then there is the usual swish round the house to give it a general clean up.

Hope you all have a good day.

  • Good morning, cold and frosty here.

DH making a drink DS was out last night, got up to go to the loo and came and showed me the menu from the place they ate in Chinatown, looked very good. He has gone back to his warm bed!

I will tidy a bit this morning and then go and do this test or exam or whatever it is all afternoon and very likely fail as I feel quite unwell. The Christmas lurgy that i caught at work is back and with a painful arthritic knee, I don't want to do this wretched thing. Apparently it is a pilot thing but by the time the actual accreditation is in place, I will probably have retired.

Never mind, much worse things happen, I am just narky as it is not what I would plan for my day off. (No real choice of day)
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone.

Another chilly day but no bright sunshine like yesterday, we're back to grey. There are gusts of high wind too.

I slept really well again last night and slept late. I like it.

Yesterday was fairly full on with both the plumber and carpenter here with a long'sh overlap. Carpenter came much earlier than he said so the sprocker got very excited to have someone else to clap him! I need to find a trainer which he took out into the garden and came back without it.

I cooked a large amount of mince yesterday, some is bolognaise and some is chilli. I put some chopped up chorizo in which made it very different. I also made a big pot of carrot and lentil soup (forgot to put in the coriander) so all set up for a while.

Candlelight - such great news! Many congratulations to you.

Plans include a thorough vacuum up and downstairs and a dust around. The black glass TV stand shows the dust too well.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a good Friday.

    Morning all.

An announcement.... WE HAVE SNOW. It can sod off as well cause I want to stay upright today.

Hubby came home last night. The car is in the garage today having some warranty work done on it and his winter tyres put on. The Pharmaton is working that he's taking for his tiredness. He kept me awake most of the night.

I'm off to have a blood test today. The aim is to stay upright.

    Onwards and forwards,

    Have a great day all.

    Morning everyone,

Later this morning as headache has given me a restless night so DOH took the girls out. Clear bright today and luckily the wind has dropped. By the time I got to the yard yesterday it was blowing a gale and was bitter.

Well the interview went relatively well, am 50/50 as to whether actually want the job, the people seem nice although not sure the person interviewing me hadn't just googled what weird questions to ask! The excel test was a huge sales report with 8 tasks to complete, we were obviously running late as was only give 5 mins to complete instead of 20  did what I could and left what I didn't have time for, hope they take that into consideration.

Today am heading into C/bridge as want to look at steam cleaners in JL, have a gift card with some money on it but having done some research I know the one I want. Will then need to pick up some food shopping. Bill will also need to be exercised as did nothing yesterday.

AOD hope your day isn't too bad and you feel ok.
Candlelight am so, so pleased for you m'dear
TA fingers and toes crossed that the AB's work

Have a good day all, take care x

    Hi all,

    Candlelight - Fantastic news X
Gers - wow, what a view, post more piccies throughout the seasons please

Cold here with frost, thawing already, but has caused a few car accidents locally so far this morning - hope there are no serious injuries.

Was due to take MIL out this morning, but she has decided to stay in the warm, so I have a free morning, I think I will bake some cupcakes, 2 of our friends birthdays this week, one a 50th so cake is definitely needed :)

All 4 cats are snuggled up on their fleecy blankets - they ain't stupid LOL

Had a nice meal out last night for DD, she,s off soon to Kenya and that was the only night she had 'free' before she goes next Saturday - not sure what's happening tonight, meeting up with friends, so it might be out - or it might be out-out ;)

    Stay warm and safe X
