Wedding flowers

I really want to do my own wedding flowers but I'm a bit concerned about where I'll buy them from. I'm from close to Sheffield and have heard the flower wholesaler there sometimes sells to the public however it feels a bit risky if the day before my wedding they won't as its hit and miss.

Has anyone else done there own wedding flowers? Where did they get them from? Our colour is purple so not sure we can rely on the supermarket. Have seen some websites but some of them seem pretty expensive.

My Mother and Sister will be doing the flowers. The plan is to grow them ourselves, the back up to buy wraps of flowers from a local florist. We are a long way from a wholesalers so that wouldn't be an option. The florist has been very friendly and given lots of helpful suggestions, the prices he quoted for flowers in wraps of 30 seemed very reasonable to me. Perhaps try a few local florists and ask if they would sell the flowers in to you bulk.

I'm from same area as you Happybunny and I'm doing daughters flowers for her wedding in June. We have had a trial run already and just foot flowers from local florist, it worked out well. Cost of flowers no more than £50 and that's for brides hand-tied, 3 bridesmaids hand tied, buttonholes and pew ends.
  • For the bouquets I ordered latex flowers online - they worked out £6 each. For the buttonholes Mum and I made them the night before.

Our colour was purple too, so we used royal purple lisianthus/eustoma. We paid around £15 for the stems through a local florist and about £2 for the wire etc. to make them up. There were loads of flowers on each stem so we had enough for all the bridal party, our families and a box to leave in the church if anyone wanted to join in. (Plus a handful of prototypes that never left the house!)

Me and my mum are doing our flowers. We have them growing at the moment and hoping they flower at the right time! We planted loads at different times so fingers crossed!

Failing this it'll be the wholesale which we have now been to plenty of times to build up a good relationship with them. I'd recommend this as they won't want to let you down then.

I've also contacted Covent Garden flower market as I'm worried we won't be able to get them. I had a really good price from them for a h*** of a lot of flowers!

Best bet is speak to a friendly local florist. They will have relationships built up at the markets and will probably get a better price than you.

Just arrange to collect them from the shop asap so the florist isn't storing your boxes of flowers and agree a small additional fee for them buying/collecting them.

I know my local florist has done this for people I know- they then arranged to buy all their tubs/oasis/ribbons from her as well, so all were happy.
