Bankruptcy & DLA

I'll try to be as a brief as possible.

My wife and I are both long term severely disabled and we both receive DLA - care & mobility.

We live in council accommodation with our two children, 12 & 18. We have no savings and having struggled to pay our unsecured debts for a while now, were advised to file two separate bankruptcy orders.

Today we received the funds from a charity for us to both file next week.

Are only source of income is the state benefits we receive.

My question is: How much of each of our DLA is likely to be taken into account to pay off the creditors. It is used towards a car and expenses of travelling 40 odd miles to and from London for our regularly hospital appointments and all of the local hospital, doctor and clinic visits we both need to attend.

Also, is it trur after 12 months you are discharged from bankruptcy?

Many thanks.
