Yes, but it still counts as part of your income so it can force some other part of your income into a higher rate band. In other words "allowance" isn't really an accurate title for it: it behaves differently from the familiar Personal Allowance.

As HMRC refer to it as the Dividend Allowance, dividend allowance it is. In fact all four common allowances (PA, SRA, PSA, DA) are functions of the total income nowadays, so the new ones aren't particularly out of order - but each has to be understood - including the unforseen outcomes they induce. So much for "tax simplification" :)

I would not want to be a trustee of a charity that conspires to avoid paying employer NIC and provide employment law rights to its workers. This stinks.

Charitable status is partly a contract with society to act in the public good. It is not in the public good to seek to avoid tax and treat one worker less well than others. Ask the charity to employ you.

Contracts with charities are frequently for fixed-terms, depending on funding. This is normal, but you need to have an adult conversation with the charity explaining that in the current political climate it is not appropriate to be anything other than an employed worker.

I'm not arguing that it's not called an allowance, I'm arguing that it's a pity that it's called an allowance. Do pay attention.

What a nasty little Stalinist weasel expression "not appropriate" is.

.. and I never said that you were. Just like your previous comment on my response to Pennywise, you are criticising something never actually written or implied.

Now, how about that £8k you DID write in post#9 ?

Because she'd have £3k of her personal allowance unused and £5k taxed at 0%. Do pay attention.
