7 year old debt

hi there,
new to this so please bear with me..
I was contacted a few weeks ago by letter concerning a credit card debt over 7 years old..
I rang the compant thinking it was an agreement I was already settling..
Anyway I was pressured into a settlement deal for the money owed..
Since then I have heard of the 6 years Statute Barred thingy..
Question is because I entered into an agreement am I now stuck with settling this debt? or can I still claim the statute barred?
Peter

Have you written to them acknowledging the debt, or made a payment yet?
Only written acknowledgment or payment by you in the last six years will exclude this being 'Statute Barred".
You can read about the Limitation Act here:
http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=25_liability_for_debts_and_the_limitation_act
which includes a letter to send saying you will not being paying the debt since it is 'statute barred' if you believe this to be so.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
