7 year old debt

hi there,
new to this so here goes..
I was contacted by letter over a credit card debt which is over7 years ago..
I rang the phone number thinking it was something else.. Anyway I was pressurised into a settlement for the money owed,,
Since then I have heard of the 6 years Statute barred,
question is can I still claim this or as I have entered into an agreement to settle, I am now stuck with it?
