What is the best procedure for a new bank account when you are about to go bankrupt.

Getting back to the original question, I would be inclined to wait until after your bankruptcy before opening a new account.
It may WELL be that OR has no problems with you keeping hold of your Nationwide account, subject of course to Nationwide (who will have the final say) approval.
In the meantime, I would suggest that you make alternative arrangements for income payments (salary/benefits etc.) to be paid into the account of either a family member, or trusted friend, until after your bankruptcy - you can then have them paid into either your new account, or existing one if you are allowed to keep it.

Hi Rog2, I think I probably have a slight advantage over most people because of the fact I am self employed. I can put my earnings in a biscuit tin if I need to its just the nuisance factor of trying to sort out DD's & SO's. The odd time that people want to pay with a cheque I can just say I don't accept them at the moment. Also, our child benefit and tax credits are paid into the Nationwide and at the moment I am not sure what to do about these ?

I was in a similar boat, with regards to your benefits I just contacted the local office & explained i'd be changing bnk accounts so for a temporary time they cancelled bank payments and instead sent giro cheqeues for benefits till I rang back to give them new bank account details
