I'm a student doing my dissertation on matched betting - help needed please!
I'm a student at the University of Portsmouth doing my final year dissertation on matched betting. I need people who do matched betting to fill out an anonymous questionnaire for my research. It’s only 5 simple questions which will take 2/3 minutes to answer in total. The questions are about amounts made and time spent matched betting. I would be very grateful to anyone that could take a couple of minutes to help me out, as there aren’t many other people I can ask.
This is a link to an information sheet with more details on my study and the questionnaire. (My university requires that I ask you to read this so you are fully informed of what is involved in completing the questionnaire.) docs.google.com/document/d/1fFImDEE3HnlMP1JQcHLdLqiQm3xn8UyOU_L1LVsVMW4/edit?usp=sharing
This is the link to my questionnaire: surveymonkey.co.uk/r/F2BTBCG (You may need to add www. in front of the survey)
Thank you for your time and a massive thank you if you completed the questionnaire for me. Good luck with your money making!

What do you expect to get out of this? That "X" number of people claim they make "Y" a month from matched betting?
There's nothing to substantiate their claims. They're an anonymous, self-selected sample.
Not sure there's any value to this survey at all.
Sorry, just looking at it like your dissertation marker presumably will.0 -
filled it in but how can you know if people told the truth ?0

Someone hasn't been to university recently. Dissertations are as academically rigorous as my contoured paper mache mountain from year 9 geography.0 -
All you're asking really is how much we've made and if we work or not. By the way none of the employment options matched what I do. I put self employed but much more of my income comes from bonus offers than it does from work.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Good luck with your dissertation. I actually think that most people who complete your survey will do so truthfully as there is nothing to be gained from not doing so. The difficulty is having accurate data for profit (let's hope most of us have accurate records) vs time (much more likely to be an estimate). It is also not a very fine grained analysis as it doesn't take account of the 'type' of matched betting and source of profits which have for example been very variable for me over the last 3 years.
I averaged 3 year's profits and guesstimated the mean time invested.
What are you trying to explore / establish?0 -
Oh dear - just read the info sheet (back to front I know). You can't draw any conclusions about the comparative 'investment' potential of matched betting vs conventional equity based investments unless you ask people about their matched betting bankroll in order to calculate ROI. You haven't asked this in your questionnaire.
Plus hypothetically in making such a comparison you have to assume that profits / returns are proportionate to bankroll as per conventional equity investments, which I don't think is necessarily the case for conventional matched betting approaches.0
