Finally got this resolved. The Philips thing seems to have been discontinued and a proper headset seemed like it would be better. So I got one of these and now I use it for almost all phone calls that I make from home. I just need to get more proficient in transferring calls to it - it would be better if I could do it without having to ask whoever's on the other end to wait for a moment while I do it.
