Top Brand Box UK Facebook Win is it a scam?

I have just received news that I am a Facebook winner of this comp E: 11/01 Win 180 Degree Fish Lens for Smartphones (FB)

they have sent me an Amazon code and a link to an Amazon site which dosn't appear to be a secure site IE not https I have tried the code on the Amazon Https site and the code dosn't work to receive the prize you have to pay for postage and packing so I would have to supply my card details which I am not prepared to do thought that I would warn other possible MSE winners about this

can't seem to find much about the company Top Brand Box UK

what do you think am I being over cautious?

Hi, I was a winner of one of their competitions last year for a Wifi smart plug. The only problem that I had with them was that the competition didnt initially state that I would have to pay for postage. I complained about this at the time and they sent me another code to cover the delivery. They seemed to have now added this point in this particular competition. If the code is not working you should get back to them.

  • I haven't won from them, but a couple of similar companies (they are usually Chinese) and they give you a 100% off code for amazon. They aren't going to ship prizes from China and their UK stock will all be in Amazon. Each time, it has been perfectly fine.

For free delivery, I usually sign up for a new Amazon account and sign up for an Amazon Prime trial (cancel straight away). This gives free delivery and negates the cost.

If your code didn't work - definitely contact them.

It clearly states the part about postage on the link you gave
!!NOTE!!:Winners must have an Amazon account.
Amazon prime member would have free Next day delivery. If not, you will be responsible for paying postage fees.
You are buying the item from AMAZON (not Top Brand Box UK)
Top Brand Box UK sell the item to AMAZON, you then buy it from AMAZON and pay the relevant postage fees they charge

I won from these last year I paid a little postage and got some nice sports headphones.
All they asked was that I leave a review on the Amazon page.
  • I was one of the winners today ordered through my sons account as he has prime so should receive it tomorrow. Found them very pleasant to deal with when i pmed them.

Thanks for your re-assuring replies, I have now ordered my prize :)
  • I won one of these as well and received the lens today via a prime account. Have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation and quality of the lens and it works a treat!
  • Received mine today too but haven't looked at it yet will try it out tomorrow though
  • I won with Top Band Box too and I'm just waiting until I make an order over £20 so I can ger super saver delivery.

I think we're going to see more and more of these type of prizes in the future because they make great business sense. The company gets to add the prize to their official Amazon sales figures AND they are more likely to get a review on Amazon from the winners.

This helps push them up the Amazon listings and potentially increases future sales.

It doesn't bother me at all - you're not giving your financial details to the competition provider, you're giving them to Amazon, which is safe.
