I posted my CV on job sites as recommended by a friend. Very soon I got some calls from agencies telling me there's some a opportunity that matches my CV. I told him to send me a job spec and I'd consider it.
The email I got back wasn't a job spec but something I felt a bit creeped out by.
First I was given a nice hyperlink to click which I should use to provide my manager's name, phone number and email address. This was so he could provide a reference. I didn't like this because it suggests my manager will be told I'm looking to move jobs before I've even been considered for a role.
Next, I was asked to provide details of every job I've already applied for including company, dates, manager and to keep him updated on this on a regular basis. The purpose of this is so when he applies for jobs on my behalf he isn't applying for ones I'm already applying for! I don't like the idea of someone applying for jobs without even asking me but it seems that's what he's implying.
Finally I was asked for the contact details of people I work with with similar skills that might be open to job opportunities. This seems like a very cheeky way of getting more people on their books.
I feel like I should ask him to cease whatever he's doing

The agency is fishing for information on the company your working for and possibly hassle about their staffing needs and maybe there is no job. I wouldn't give them any information.0

I don't think there's anything wrong with this. He (probably) won't be "applying for jobs in your name" per se but drawing up a list of suitable candidates for the company to look at. They decide who they're interested in and he contacts them to let them know about the job opportunity.
The only other way to do it would be to contact the candidates first then take the list of people who said they were interested to the company.
It'd probably be a little disheartening (if not somewhat unprofessional) to then come back to some of these people and say "Well it turns out they're not interested in you."0 -
The moment you give out info on what jobs you applied for, names of company etc, the recruitment consultant will bombard those companies with a list of applicants. You suddenly have several hundred of people competing against you for all the jobs you applied for.0
