in Cutting tax
I am curently in dispute with council re some arrears from previous property my son was renting, which i am in contact with the ombudsman about.
I have been in contact with the community legal service and they have suggested also finding out if my sons previous c.tax bill was correct or not.
Question....
My son is on long term Incapacity benefit and not getting any other income.
Sharing a rented house with three students who are presumably exempt.
He got basic c.tax benefit off the whole house bill but should he be entitled to any other reductions as the only person with income even if it is only IB.
The bill was still very high for someone on only IB.
I cant really ring the council " again" so was hoping for some help please.

Without knowing the ins and outs of the particular case, it won't be 100% pertinent to your son, however, I can give you some general info.
As your son is in a property with students, he should be entitled to 25% Single Person Discount, however, this will only be applied if the students have correctly submitted certificates confirming their student status.
He will obviously qualify for Housing and Council Tax Benefit, however, whereas an individual claiming JSA or Income Support will receive full benefit, incapacity benefit normally takes an individual over the applicable amount given for an adult solely responsible for a property.
I'm sure someone else more experienced in C.Tax benefit will advise, but hope this gives you some basic info.WARNING!Alcohol can make you think you are more interesting and attractive than you actually are.....0
