Notice period on Probation

Hi All,
I am going for an interview for a job I really hope to get and part of the reason they are interested is because I am still in my probation period at work and therefore would be able to join them within one week should they wish to offer me the job.
At least I think that is the case. I have just read my contract and under the notice period section the exact wording says 'After the satisfactory completion of your probationary period, the notice period is extended to four weeks for both you and the company'
The problem is nowhere in the contract does it actually say what the notice period is during the probation. I know it isn't four weeks due to the use of the word 'extended' in the paragraph above but that doesn't clarify what it is within the probationary period. I know my boss will be very annoyed with me only giving them one week as its a really busy time and she may well try to stop my going that soon so I really need to know what to do. I assume as it doesn't stipulate anywhere in the contract that they can keep me for longer then they wouldn't be able to?
I have partly sold myself to the company on the basis that I would be available to start with them within one week so any advice on this? How do you read it?
Thanks in advance.

As it does not specify a notice period for the probationary period what applies is the statutory provision - one week if you have been employed for between one month and two years.0
