Disposing of TV?

Hi - I have a 2 1/2 year old 40" Toshiba LCD TV that seems to be on its way out. We had it repaired about 6 months ago because the screen went out (all sound, no picture). At that stage either the LCDs or backlight was replaced and all was hunky dory for a while, but it's started playing up again and I'm not sure it's worth paying another £80 to have this work done again if I'll only get 6 months life out of it. It seems as thought his may be a flaw with certain Toshiba models. However, I'm loath to skip it and wondered if there is anywhere that will recycle or refurbish older TVs. I don't want money for it, but I hate to see it go to landfill - it makes me feel guilty! Any ideas?

freecycle or local facebooks groups ?"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0

Your local council recycling centre will take it. Pretty sure it's illegal to send electrical waste to landfill now.0

If you leave the TV in the correct section of your local council recycling centre then it will not go to landfill. It will be collected for recycling purposes under a special WEEE scheme run by the councils and the funded by UK electrical manufacturers.
Or, depending where you live, you could perhaps give it to an organisation such as Refresh Appliances in Newtownards who will try to re-use electrical equipment.
It is not actually illegal to send to landfill but this option is obviously not the best for the environment and is also more expensive for councils (and therefore higher rates).0 -
That's great, thank you. Good to know that I can leave it at the council dump with a clear conscience!0
