Must be one of the hazards of doing a paper return, had you done SA Online you'd have known at the time of submission what you owed. I'd ring them up now rather than wait to the last minute, it's possible that it has been sent but has been lost in the post.
  • it was sent online i will wait another week if no reply i will phone but there again you can never get through, although it said no tax to pay as they did last year they still sent me a bill for £3oo

Go back to your on line submission, it tells you how much you owe.
  • yes i will have a look online thanks
  • Just make sure that you actually have submitted it - ie gone through the full process - usually a repeat log in is required at the end and it would not be the first time that someone has thought that the return was completed without actually pressing the 'submit' button. The 'view your calculation' page is immediately before submission.

I sent in my paper return last June, got a reply in a couple of weeks, along with a tax rebate cheque.

    So simple, so easy!

    Cheers fj

Well isn't that wonderful but pretty unusual if accurate.

I posted my son's paper return to HMRC at the beginning of August. Received within a day or so but not processed until late October.
