Free samples with Debenhams beauty card - anyone tried?

According to their website you can claim free samples by showing your card. But how can you do this without seeming really cheap?!

Its when you first sign up for the Debenhams Beauty Card. Now quite a few complaints on their Facebook page about the samples given. Nothing special just a few random samples you would given anyway.0

Tried asking a few times and always walk away feeling embarrassed because the card seems to stand for nothing, no samples are ever given or they are offered if I purchase something so expensive that I'd expect not just a sample but for the products to re-paint my bathroom or re-tile my floor.0
