Dear All You Lovely Lovely DFW Peoples!
I read an awful lot on here and I know that it must be possible but I so need some reassurance / pointers to keep me motivated and I think this just might be the place…
Things have got out of control a bit the last 12 months or so as I have been living the life of riley (who’s he??) but have hit crunch time this month. And I know, with my net salary I should not be in this mess but I am but will get out it. Am hoping in 6 months.
“New” overdraft after Sept’s bills £1,895
O/D facility £2k so £105 for everything else for the month
Thanks for reading war and peace!

The thing id suggest is get on the old school boards and feed yourself on the cheap without resorting to beans on toast (lol i put tao(i)st by accident before, that would be just wrong) everyday.
Also if you could some pay that 1000 back the month after that would leave you with some breathing room.
And get your money back, explain the situation, someone elses debt problems arent our own, its your money.
Also can you not ditch lovefilm and find another 30 day trial?
Good luck0 -
Well your first priority is to make sure you can eat! Have you got much in your cupboards/ freezer to use up? Have a look at the Old Style board for cheap meal ideas, take your own lunch to work and yep, cut out the coffees! You've already said you'll have to cut out/ back on the after work drinks.. it can be hard to make 'excuses' not to go, but either tell them it's a tight month money-wise, or say you're having a health kick and not drinking as much!
Anything else you can stick on eBay/ Amazon to sell.. books, CDs, DVDs etc?Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
I like beans on toast....
Proud to have dealt with with my debts
Debt free from 18th March 2013, long may it continue!0 -
You need to look for a different DVD company like blockbuster or something for a free trial.0

If you are off on a hen night at the weekend, why are you going out for drinks tomorrow? If you've only got a hundred pounds to last you the month surely that is something you could avoid for once.0

Reality check. If you haven't got the cash, you can't accept the invitation. face it. If your friends are real friends, they won't mind staying in with you for a bottle of cheap plonk and pasta. Don't view any additional credit on CC's as your money, you still have to pay it back. It will come back to haunt you otherwise.
Good luck, you sound in good spirits.
I also like beans on toast, especially with a bit of grated cheese in it

Hi GW, Just read your thread and I know that you can do this as you seem to be very spirited

One way of looking at your situation is to take the amount you have £108 and divide it by the amount of days until next pay day. If you dive £108 by 30 days it gives you an average of approx £3.60 a day to live on
Just remember this when you are tempted into drinks after work or that ever so needed *Fill in blank*... Ok so ive turned into numbers geek but it works for me
Good luck with itOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts

Are you saying that you spent £3.50 on your night out or £68.50? There is a big difference. Or was it £3.50 on top of your daily budget, ie £29.50?
You need to be honest with yourself about your spending, if you play little tricks and make excuses in your mind, then you aren't facing up to the reality of what is really happening. So if you want to go out and spend however much on a night out, then fine, that is totally your decision, but face up to it, don't try to wriggle out of it and pretend to yourself that you haven't spent money when you have.0 -
Morning GW, Glad that you found that useful and it sounds like you still had a enjoyable meet up with friends
I just wanted to say that depending on how seriously you want to tackle your debts you should try and budget your earnings so you have no need to use the credit card. It is very hard to get out of debt if you still use the tools of debt!
I dont mean to preach but just remember that akthough you may have money left on the card or overdraft this money isnt yours. You do not have to live like pauper as if you have a budget you set out your own spending. Just be honest about what you are spending it on. A Budget should be seen as a instruction list to tell your money what to do. It shouldnt be seen as a punishment as it will not work!
On my budget spreadsheet I have a "!!!!" part what I put £40 a month into. This is for things that dont fall into the other caterogies and sometimes I dont even spend it and just clear it of my debt. THe difference I have found over time is that I know no longer have to use my CC/OD anymore as I live within my means and If I need something I either work overtime or save for it.
It took me 6 months to get to the point were I didnthave to use some type of credit to live on but things are so much better now and the balances are coming down at a steady rate.
Hope you do continue this as a debt diary as it makes interesting reading
