Not wishing to start a discussion but I don't think a supermarket or shopping centre is a public place, it is private property (some stores have signs up when they are taking photos for events etc seeking implied permission - I.e. You have given your permission by entering and either need to avoid the photographer or make them aware of your objection). Not sure that applies to public taking photos of other members of the public though.

This was the point I was trying to make the other night. it could be a photo or a piece of information but people really do make themselves more identifiable than they think.

is a photo more personal than a load of written information that identifies someone? it's the same thing to me.

As for the posts and photos tonight....cryptic? Not at all. they were aimed towards one person and that's not nice at all. Why would anyone do that?

Dippydoo you are not funny and don't let yourself be used as a mouthpiece by people who are too afraid to post themselves......a la Nerfy.

"There was no yellow warning sign alerting customers and staff that the floor was wet and slippery."

Then again, I've bumped into yellow warning signs myself - and slightly injured myself (I did recover very quickly - nothing severe and didn't bring any claim). But that's because I'm a person who has Asperger's syndrome who is often clumsy.

The yellow warning signs are the lethal thing:rotfl:. I just failed to notice it since I was looking straight up and walked into it:doh:!

Actually, it was in a toilet block - why would someone leave a yellow warning cone behind a toilet door like that? - what a stupid place:mad::rotfl::rotfl:! I walked into it whilst the cleaner was cleaning up. Tell you, these things required by health and safety - create safety issues of their own:eek::rotfl::rotfl:!

So - put up no yellow warning sign and you get sued! Put one up and you still risk getting sued as someone walks into it!:(:rotfl:

A picture speaks a thousand words.
Except to a person with Asperger's syndrome:rotfl:. Maybe. To me, it either says nothing at all because it is not expressly stated in words but leaves implication that I don't get (I certainly don't get what any all-but-totally-obvious facial expression means). Or sometimes it says a lot more, since I can see a pattern in the image that can be studied intricately. (Or maybe I wish:rotfl::rotfl:. Sometimes, I know people do get patterns from things.)

In the case of the photo of the shopper, it wasn't the shopper that chose to make themselves identifiable. Someone else did that.

But, as regards us, yes - little pieces of information, over time, a post here, a post there - can be added up and make a jigsaw that can be solved. Can you remember everything you have ever posted and the pieces of information from different times that, in theory, someone could piece together, from seeing different posts that remain online, and use to identify you? I'm not trying to be alarmist - it's just something we don't always think about.

Savvy, were you not keeping up with the Quorn glitches that was posted early this morning?:D

I was keeping up with them very and in detail. I was unable to do any shopping for them as my freezer is full of Youngs basa fish, many thanks I think to you!:T:T I looked at the items in the offer and posted a list myself of those that had favourable Morries prices - the two best appear to be those two, that are the only two on msm (I don't think the Quorn Strips are likely to work as they have really been OOS in M for so very long). I was just trying to work out what SFSB's shop was telling us. The individual price instore (for the sausages) had not been increased at that point I think it was telling us.

    .

Some people are clearly more comfortable than others when posting online and share a great deal about their RL. As suggested by my username, I prefer anonymity as much as possible. You only need to see how FB and other online services suggest people that you may know to make you stop and think that it is sometimes better to be more cautious.

The thing is what do you expect when you go into a supermarket? Do you expect to find yourself appearing on TV? I would say not. Clearly. Unless there is a notice up large enough for people to make the filming clear - and even that will not be effective for some people, it may be said - such as people who are profoundly blind or cannot read - then no-one would expect that (from their own routine visit to a supermarket). As well as laws relating to public places, privacy, permissions and data protection, there are also rules for the TV companies that are enforced through Ofcom and require certain procedures to be taken before filming takes place. There are also guidelines for others - such as newspapers taking photographs of people in public or private places.

I think I was once filmed as I left a train at Leicester railway station in the East Midlands in the early 1990s. No permission was sought - literally the train door opened, I left the train, there was a camera filming and it was so immediate and without any thought on my part in advance (I didn't know it was there) I just kept walking completely unaffected the way I would have done had it never been there. I knew it had happened when it happened and afterwards - and of course now.

But that was an ordinary crowd situation, it was just a filming at a train station, probably because of some item about railways in the news at the time (about which I was unaware - it was not where I lived). I've never seen any television broadcast that may have been made as a result and I am unaware of whether any such broadcast ever occurred, where or when it ever was and never got to see it. I probably appeared on East Midlands Today that night:rotfl:, just as part of the general crowd and no-one would have noticed me or pointed me out - I didn't ever know who had been filming. They're allowed to do that, they always have been. I just happened to get out at the particular door that they happened to be in front of. People appear all the time on the television in public places and their permission has not been sought and does not always have to have been sought.

And how has the filming affected me? I would say it has had almost no impact at all on my life - other just my just happening to mention it now, which itself is not a problem or any issue. It's impact is so minimal as to be almost nil - about 5 seconds out of a life of over 40 years (plus whatever few minutes I happen, years later, to have used to mention it now - and will move on again, completely unaffected, almost as soon as I came to post this post).
