I wanna ... nice brooch

For my 21st birthday my Nan wants to buy me a brooch. The problem is that I'm struggling to find a nice brooch in the right price range. Nan wants to spend £40 - £60 and for this wants a proper gold or silver brooch not something overly fashionable. Unfortunately all the ones I've found are cheap and nasty or really expensive.

Well you probably won't fins anything decent in gold for that, so go for something a bit classier in silver .. how about Charles ennie Mackintosh stuff..
try here http://www.rennie-mackintosh-online.co.uk/ or just google.
My stuff has always been remarked on when I'm abroad!HLK

Thanks, I've already been to that site (I've been googling for about 4hrs). Problem is Nan has quite specific requirements:
1. Must be more than 4cm wide.
2. Can't have too much black on it.
3. Needs to be quite solid - not too many cut out bits.
4. Preferably should have some colour/gemstone on it, not just be metal.

My favourite one I've found so far is:
http://www.paulabolton.net/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2epaulabolton%2enet%2facatalog%2f&WD=brooch&SHOP=%20&PREVQUERY=TB%3dA%26GB%3d%26SS%3dbrooch%26PR%3d%2d1&PN=Black_onyx_and_amber%2ehtml%23a376#a376
but Nan doesn't like the black onyx on it. That whole site had some lovely brooches, but we couldn't find one we both liked.0 -
Could you be gentle with her, thank her for all her suggestions but say you;'ve fallen in love witha particular design etc etc ... after all you will be the one wearing it. Your more likely to wear it often if chose it.HLK

I would like to but Nan can get really funny about things like that. She'll be miffed with me for AGES and it'll spoil the whole mood of the gift. She was the one that suggested I choose it so I'll get one I like, but then as I've shown her ones I like the previous problems/requirements have been raised. I found a few antique brooches that I liked aswell but she says it has to be a new one.0

Get her to choose one that SHE likes - save the aggro - stick it in a drawer - only wear it when she will see it and save your sanity as she will drive you loopy trying to find something that she will approve of!"This site is addictive!"

Does your nan have an old stone set ring she does wear. If so take it to a goldsmith which are hidden away in most towns. They can cut the ring and spread it out to a bar brooch shape. Attach a pin and you have a sentimental unique brooch. Good luck~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)
