The number of tenants falling seriously behind on rent went up by 13.8 per cent between the three months to June and the three months to September, according to figures released this morning. There were 84,200 tenants more than two months behind on their payments between July and September – the most for two years, the data from estate agents Your Move and Reeds Rains reveals. http://www.cityam.co...sing?ITO=stream
Was just wondering what the solution is too this latest landlord problem with clause 24 or it's way as well. Don't tell me..
PUT THE RENTS UP!!

The solution will of course be to put the rents up to make sure theres no shortfall in income.
Alongside measuring this against any other previous time period which helps to avoid the increase part and focus on the fact that it's better than another period picked randomly in time.0 -

Yes.
From the article quoted by the OP....the proportion of private tenancies in arrears has risen to to 1.6 per cent from 1.4 per cent, but is below a 2008 peak of 2.9 per cent.
It also notes...As others bid rents higher there will be a minority who are still struggling to keep up,”
Which is the market working exactly as it should.
Rationing goods in limited supply through price until sufficient people are priced out (or forced to share) so as to equalise supply and demand.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Yes.
And with another 500,000 people being added to population this year (and almost certainly next year), and nowhere near enough houses being built, rents will have to rise again until some more people are priced out and forced to share.
Rinse and repeat...“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

I could not get the link on the OP to work, so here is one from the Grauniad that does.
http://www.theguardian.com/money/2016/jan/08/tenants-serious-arrears-rises-september-2015
Despite the headline, the article does contain quotes such as "the latest deterioration in arrears “remains relatively mild” " and “The chance of an individual tenant falling into serious arrears remains very low. In general, renting works for most people.”
Storm in a teacup, if you ask me.0 -

the best and immediately effective way of helping both renters and FTB is an immediate freeze on non essential immigration until at least 2 million new homes have been built.0 -

No it wouldn't. It would be far more helpful to kill everyone who would have otherwise died were it not for recent increases in life expectancy. If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.0 -

all human problems could be 'solved' by killing everybody if you choose to be stupid.
the increase in population is a real practical problem and freezing most immigration could be helpful with no downside0 -
It means ther are less now than ever.
so a none story then.0
